Andrea M. Spiker, MD, is a sports medicine and hip preservation orthopaedic surgeon at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, subspecialty certified in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, and is dual fellowship-trained in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Hip Preservation. She serves as the Program Director of the UW Orthopedic Surgery Sports Medicine Fellowship Program and is the Director of the UW Hip Preservation Program. She is a team physician for UW Badger Athletics and provides head orthopaedic coverage for the UW Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams. Dr. Spiker’s clinical interests are focused on the hip and knee, with additional expertise in hip preservation procedures including hip arthroscopy, surgical hip dislocation and periacetabular osteotomy.

Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Spiker received her undergraduate degree from Wellesley College in Massachusetts, and, prior to entering medical school, worked as a speech writer for the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C. and was a Fulbright Scholar in Berlin, Germany. She then received her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and completed her orthopaedic surgery residency at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. She then completed two fellowships at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY – the first in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery and the second in Hip Preservation. She currently serves on the Editorial Boards for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Video Journal of Sports Medicine, and Arthroscopy: the Journal of Arthroscopy and Related Surgery and is an active reviewer for additional journals including JBJS and JHPS. Dr. Spiker is a member of the AJSM Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce, the AOSSM Council of Delegates, and the AANA Education and Communications and Technologies Committees as well as the AANA Emerging Leaders Taskforce. She is also a podcast host for the Arthroscopy Journal Podcast and a member of the Academic Network of Conservational Hip Outcomes Research (ANCHOR) group.

Dr. Westermann is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with an ABOS subspeciality certification in sports medicine. His clinical research is focused on improving outcomes after knee and hip arthroscopy through the MOON (knee) and the ANCHOR (hip) multi-center study groups. Dr. Westermann went to medical school at the University of Washington in Seattle and completed his residency at Iowa. He completed an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic and was awarded the ANCHOR – Harris Career Development Award in hip preservation and completed a hip arthroscopy travelling fellowship with Christopher Larson, MD, Asheesh Bedi, MD, Ira Zaltz, MD and John Clohisy, MD. Dr. Westermann serves on committees for the AOSSM, AANA, and ISHA. He is on the editorial board for the AJSM and the Arthroscopy Journal and is an orthopedic reviewer for the New England Journal of Medicine.
