Dr. Belangero is an Orthopedist and Professor at the Postgraduate Program in Sports Medicine at UNIFESP. He is a reviewer and/or Editorial Board member for several journals as the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Acta Ortopédica Brasileira and Revista Brasileira de Ortopedia. He is the Chief of Sports Trauma Team in UNIFESP (DOT/EPM) and is interested in research, specifically shoulder instability and Genetics aspects in Sports Medicine. He won the Caspari Award for best Superior limb paper in ISAKOS 2013 and has been SLARD-ESSKA traveling fellow in 2019. He also serves on Committees in SBOT (Brazilian Orthopaedic Society) and SBCOC (Brazilian Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery).

Dr. Diehl has focused his training and professional practice on Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and specializes in the surgical treatment of sports related injuries of the shoulder and knee.

He is a member of the editorial board for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, the open access Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine and serves as a reviewer for AJSM, OJSM and Sports Health. He has participated in basic science research on the throwing shoulder, treatment of ACL injuries of the knee and has authored major textbook and medical journal publications.

Currently Dr. Diehl is an Assistant Professor at Duke University in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery’s Division of Sports Medicine. He is the Head Team Physician for Elon University and works in Elon’s School of Health Sciences with physical therapy residents in sports medicine. For Duke Orthopaedics, Dr. Diehl takes an active role in the mission to educate university and medical students, Orthopaedic Surgery residents, Orthopaedic and Primary Care Sports Medicine fellows, continues to be involved in clinical research and has been a Senior Faculty Advisor for Duke’s Feagin Leadership Program.

Dr. Diehl earned his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University and then completed his Doctorate of Medicine with honors at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center with an Air Force Health Professions Scholarship. On active duty with the Air Force, Dr. Diehl completed an internship in General Surgery and then was stationed in North Carolina, where he practiced primary care as a Flight Surgeon deploying frequently throughout the world. He subsequently completed residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at UNC-Chapel Hill, followed by fellowship training in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at the University of Chicago.

In 2013 Dr. Diehl retired as a Colonel from the United States Air Force after 24 years of federal service. During his military career Dr. Diehl served in a number of leadership roles including, Chief of the Multi-specialty Clinic in Bitburg, Germany and Chief of a Mobile Field Surgical Team (MFST) with multiple deployments to the Middle East and Africa. He was an Advanced Cardiac and Trauma Life Support instructor for United States Air Forces Europe and the Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. At the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, he served as the Assistant Chief of Sports Medicine and Team Physician for the USAFA Falcons. While in the Air Force Reserve, he worked as a flight surgeon with the 920th Combat Rescue Wing in Florida and the 4th Fighter Wing in North Carolina.
